Tips for Using Self Hypnosis to Change Bad Habits

Self-hypnosis is the big self-improvement secret that most people miss out on. Perhaps it is their conception of what hypnosis is. Pictures of a stage hypnotist getting subjects to bark like dogs or to act like a chicken congers up the image of giving your will, uncontrolably. over to someone else, being completly controlled. In reality nothing could be further from the truth. In hypnosis you will remain aware of what you are doing and you will not do anything under hypnosis that you wouldn't do in a normal waking state. So rest easy and forget about such notions.

What you do get with hypnosis is a way to talk directly with your subconscious mind. This is the part of you that controls habits and reactions. Wouldn't it be useful to be able to reach in and change a habit or the way you react in different conditions? Wouldn't it be great to be able to enhance the way you learn? You be it would and this is the power you get with self-hypnosis. Suddenly you gain control over your life in ways that you may not have thought possible.

You may wonder how you can reach your subconscious. There method is called hypnotic induction and many ways are possible. In fact you have probably gone into and out of hypnosis without realizing it. Driving home you go on auto pilot and on arriving home you realize that you have arrived but do not remember the trip. You were safe but your subconscious took over the trip.

So how do you get to this state whenever you want? By using an induction. There are many types of inductions but the most common one, and the one first taught is the countdown method. In this method you slow your breathing making it deliberate and deep as you begin to countdown. With each count you tell yourself that you are relaxing more and more. Usually counting down from 10 to 1 is sufficient to at least get into a light stage of hypnosis. When the induction phase ends you begin repeating your suggestions over and over to yourself from a script you prepared ahead of time. This script is simply made up of positive statements in the present tense about what you want to achieve. As you say the script silently in your head you should envision yourself succeeding at the things you are suggesting. When these two phases are complete there is nothing left to do but wake up. A common way to do this is to count yourself up while telling yourself you are waking up and that at the count of 1 you will be wide awake and alert.

This method can be used to address and bad habit that you want to conquer. It can also be used to help you learn new materials or to encourage new behaviors. Enjoy yourself as you start this journey of learning self-hypnosis.
